About the Icelandic Horse 

The Icelandic Horse is one of the world's oldest and purest horse breeds, with a history that dates back more than 1,000 years. Descended from the horses brought to Iceland by Norse settlers during the Viking Age, the breed has remained remarkably unchanged thanks to Iceland's long-standing prohibition on importing horses. Once an Icelandic Horse leaves Iceland, it can never return, protecting the health and genetic integrity of the breed for generations.
Although modest in stature, the Icelandic Horse is renowned for its strength, endurance, intelligence, and gentle temperament. Suitable for riders of all ages and experience levels, these horses are celebrated around the world for their willing nature and versatility. Perhaps the breed's most distinctive feature is its natural ability to perform up to five gaits. In addition to the walk, trot, and canter, many Icelandic Horses perform the smooth four-beat tölt, a remarkably comfortable gait that allows riders to travel long distances with exceptional comfort. Some horses also possess the exciting flying pace, a fast two-beat gait showcased in specialized competitions. These unique gaits have made the Icelandic Horse famous among riders seeking both performance and comfort.
